GARGOYLES
Long ago when the first races began walking the world of Insymnia they
discovered odd statues of the hardest rock. These statues were once
believed to have been left by the ancients, a great people of a time
forgotten.
The people began to create structure that reached the skies above. Soon
they had noticed that these statues, that were once set in the fields and
wood, had somehow come to rest atop their new structures. Each town had
tales of some deviant or other that may have found a way to move these
cumbersome objects about freely when noone would notice. None would
ever guess that these statues sprang to life in the night and moved
about watching over those who lived below. Centuries of watching gave
these beings great wisdom as they secretly learned from those who lived
and died below them.
It is rumored that these gargoyles, as they were given to being called,
were granted the blood of the dragons at birth thus allowing their magics
to flow freely in their unnaturally formed bodies. For countless ages
these creatures lived unseen, choosing only recently to walk the world
in full view of the people they once studied in secret. Now striding
even in full daylight for all to know relishing the rays of warmth even
as the sun slows and inhibits the movement of their bodies.
